Here’s what I got done between now and Wednesday, which is not a lot:

I’ve been fighting with what to do on top of her dress all week.  I keep trying things and starting over… to get resolved this weekend.

take it in

I don’t generally show my sketchbook because I think most of the drawings in it are pretty ugly, and I (rather unfortunately) have a terrible habit of only using sketchbooks for planning, when they should be for exploration!

Here’s a cut-out, paired with its sketch.  Often I am dissatisfied with my cuts, feeling that they don’t reflect my sketches.  I am happy with the progress of this one so far.

This is the start of an illustration for the story Off, out of Aimee Bender’s Willful Creatures.  It is the tale of a woman’s quest to kiss three men at a party – one redhead, another blonde, and lastly a burnette.  The main character is rich and constantly talking about her appearance and wealth. She’s rather backhanded in every aspect of her life.

computer work

Sorry for the no-show post on Friday.  Last week I was in a blogging slump (probably brought on by an unproductive weekend), but I am back!

This past week I was working on some freelance stuff, including this illustration for LittleBig Magazine:

I also did a little work for Brown Paper Bag.  Images to link back to BPB!  I still have one more image to create:

This weekend’s weather was gorgeous.  I enjoyed a thick slice of the outdoors on Sunday by running in the park and playing softball with my friends that afternoon.  So wonderful!

beginnings

Armed with two discs of Dexter (the third season IS pretty boring compared to the first two seasons, but at this point I’m working towards the 4th season finale), I was pretty unsuccessful in working on freelance projects last night.  I just couldn’t seem to get anything right.  When I started on this, however, things seem to fall into place much better:

Above:  A project for Brown Paper Bag.  I am sending this across the pond to the lovely Thereza Rowe so she can play around with it.  I’ll let you know when its up on BPB.

Also, a recipe I really like:  I have attempted to turn my diet from carnivorous to vegetarian, and so far it’s going pretty well.  It especially helps with recipes like this, that are both tasty and filling and don’t make me miss eating meat.  Tortilla and black bean pie.

I forgot to post this morning, so here I am, Wednesday night!  I was sewing this evening and suddenly remembered to scan.  So, here it is, fresh out of my hands and to your lovely eyes:

This piece is pretty big, so this weekend I should be able to show a scan of the whole thing.  I hate it when I have been working on something for a while and get disillusioned.  I’m at that point with this piece.  I lose track of where I started and where it’s going.  Must see my vision through!

Also, danke to a couple of (awesome)blogs that have shown my work recently:

Its always interesting to see what people pick to show!  Seeing this sort of stuff always makes my day.

Sorry for the no post on Monday, but on Sunday I worked on freelance work all day and didn’t get to my own project.  I made these guys last night, to go along with what I am currently doing:

I love dia de los muertos, so that’s where those guys are coming from.  You might have seen them show up in my earlier work (like, 2008 earlier).

My friend Annie is in town with an ensemble at a local venue tonight.  Annie plays the bass clarinet and is currently living in San Francisco, so it’s really a treat she’s here.

Also, one step closer to the triathlon:  I bought a racing swimsuit today via ebay.  Don’t worry, it’s new with tags.  I also went to the gym at 6:30 this morning.  It was worse than I thought it would be, but that’s probably because I only got 4 hours of sleep.

o.n.e.

It’s snowing again. Wahhh!

More progress on what I posted on Wednesday.  My friends are hosting an art show in their house and I’m putting a piece in it.  I would (ideally) like to see this hanging in the show.  We’ll see.  There is a lot to be done.

I’ve thought about starting to wake up early to go to the gym.  I don’t relish the idea, but there’s nothing more difficult for me to work for 8 hours and then come home and leave again to work out.  The gym opens at 5:30am, I work at 9am.  I think I could do it!  Plus, I am participating in a triathlon in June, and I better get to swimmin’.

Hair will be cut and dyed this weekend.
